The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) of the United States has granted another patent related to Electrochemicals' SHADOW® Direct Metalization Process.

The invention, "Aqueous Carbon Composition and Method for Coating a Non Conductive Substrate," is U.S. Patent number 6,440,331.

The invention describes a composition and method for applying an electrically conductive coating to a non-conductive substrate such as a printed wiring board, organic chip carrier or a plastic.

The process is designed to apply a conductive carbon coating in combination with an additional conductive material. The resulting coating has improved conductivity over prior through-hole coating compositions and processes, and enables the electro-deposition of copper for increasingly complex electronic interconnect devices.

The inventors are Michael Carano and Frank Polakovic. Frank recently retired from the company.

For additional information please contact Michael Carano at 763-479-2008, ext. 104 or mcarano@electrochemicals.com
